1. Wallet

A wallet is your way to interact with the decentralized web. It not only holds your valuable assets, but also represents an identity. You could see it as having a social login, like Google, but with the extra neatness of having financial capabilities and actually being pseudonymous.

A variety of wallets are out there to explore; some already having proven their worth and others being riskier to use. Here we'll cover the most popular one of the bunch, namely MetaMask. Which is currently also the only wallet we've incorporated into our website.

Discovery 2 "The first step always feels a bit scary for one's urge of not wanting to fail in uncertainty."

Setting up MetaMask

This is a step-by-step for desktop users, but is practically the same for iOS and Android devices:

  1. Here you'll see a download button, which will take you to the extension or add-ons page of MetaMask.

  2. Add it to your browser.

  3. Now, during the setup you'll be given a 12-word seed phrase. IMPORTANT: never ever give this phrase to someone else. Store it safely, preferably on a piece of paper or, if you're witty, try memorizing it. This will be your only way back into your wallet if you for some reason lose access to it.

Your wallet is solely yours

Important to know is that the addresses your wallet holds exist on the blockchain and are not tied to MetaMask in any way.

It's a common misunderstanding for those who just start out to believe that these addresses and everything pertaining to it "lives inside of MetaMask", but you simply allow MetaMask access to it via the seed phrase. Therefore, you could always import these 12-words into a different crypto wallet and gain access to all your accounts again.

NOTE: there will be a couple more wallets to choose from if our minting will be available on the zkMarkets marketplace.
